4 Tips for Cozying up This Winter

4 Tips for Cozying up This Winter

With little sunlight and shorter days, it is easy to focus on the gloomy nature of winter. Although we sometimes find ourselves falling into a rut and holding out for the warmth of summer, winter is actually a great time to get cozy and spend time inside! We've selected 5 ways in which you can still enjoy practicing self-care, spending time with friends, and more.

1. Grab your best blanket

Finding the perfect blanket is crucial when reaching ultimate-cozy. It's all about the perfect balance between softness, durability, and warmth. We've found that linen and cotton are the perfect materials for cozy blankets, especially if you have sensitive skin. Not only is the material important, but the color and style can also affect your environment. You will want to get something that goes with your decor so you feel relaxed in a cohesive home.

2. Dim the lights

Since we are talking about your environment, lighting plays a huge role in making a space feel warm and cozy. Ever notice when you walk into an industrial office and you get an instant headache from the white fluorescent lights? Well there is something to that. In Danish culture, Hygge is the concept that describes being cozy, and within Hygge it is important to only have light-glows that are similar to a sunset or wood fire. Warm, dim lighting will promote relaxation and ultimately have you feeling immediately at home.

3. Warm drink, warm soul!

Winter is in fact our favorite time of year because we get to bust out the warm drinks. Coffee in the morning, tea midday, and some hot cocktail at light! Cozying up with a warm drink is so fun because there are so many options out there. We usually drink coffee before 10am so the caffeine doesn't keep us up all night, tea in the afternoon, and on weekends a yummy fancy cocktail, like mulled wine! Nothing more soothing than notes of cinnamon, orange, and liqueur...

4. Switch out your bedding

Not many people remember to do this, but we always recommend buying another set of bedding sheets and a duvet for winter. This can include flannel, a down duvet, or maybe even multiple blankets! When you switch over your sheets, it will remind your body that it is the season for hibernation. You may even begin to get your full 8 hours of sleep! That way you won't feel so bad going to be early when the sun goes down.
